You have to love the Internet. Social media services such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn allow us to stay in pretty close contact with all of our clients, colleagues and friends. But it does have a dark side.
How many fake death announcements have hit the Internet during the past year? There are many, so many…we lost count!
Websites like the one below, perhaps meant as a joke are causing some folks to tweet, post and share stories that are not 100% true. Before you believe everything that you read, do your homework. Check local or national media outlets or other trusted sources to verify the story. After all, the Internet knows no boundaries and is full of spam and fake information.
The most recent is 80′s pop star Adam Ant. According to an article found on mediafetcher.com, it claims that Adam Ant died from a Jet Ski accident in the Turks and Caicos Islands. It would devastate the music industry if it was true! But, it isn’t.
Did you notice the adam.ant in the URL? Let’s change it to Microsoft founder, Bill Gates and see what happens.
Bill Gates is now a dead musician. Go ahead and try it with your own name. http://bill.gates.mediafetcher.com/news/top_stories/jet-ski_musician_turks.php
